520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Aquaponics System is the combination of Aquaculture (raising of aquatic plants and/or animals) and Hydroponics (water-based or soilless cultivation of plants) that grows fish and plants together in one integrated system (Permaculture Research Institute, 2016). The basic idea behind the system is that the waste products of the fish provides nutrients for the plants, while the plants filter the water for the fish, thus allowing the two species to share a symbiotic relationship. This production system is also coupled with the oxidizing microorganisms that converts ammonia and nitrite into beneficial substances (nitrate) for the plants' consumption and allow the latter to improve the water quality for the benefit of the fish stocks.
